Hardware Cloth--Lightweight with Smaller Openings

If you want smaller openings, you can use ½" and ¼" wire mesh products. Also known as hardware cloth, these meshes come in both galvanized and vinyl coated finishes. Galvanized rolls in both mesh sizes are available in 24", 36" and 48" widths in either 50' or 100' long rolls. Vinyl coated rolls are only 100' in length. ½" mesh is also available in 60" and 72" x 100' rolls in both galvanized and vinyl coated finish.

Both Hex netting and hardware cloth meshes are:

  • durable
  • lightweight
  • easy to cut
  • easy to handle
  • perfect for outdoor use
  • easy to work with when making different shapes and forms

There are other mesh sizes and wire gauges available in galvanized or vinyl coated finishes for cage making and other projects.

What types of projects can you think of that could use any of these meshes?

Fence Projects for Fall

September 21, 2010 | by Frank Langone

fall color

Yeah, Autumn's great (but you-know-what is coming)

Beat the frost? Who wants to think of winter?

Need to finish up certain projects before the cold weather and snow mess up your plans and frost makes digging holes for fencing a lot more difficult? The cool and pleasant fall days ahead make the work easier and more pleasant to face when you would rather be doing other things. But you need to finish certain tasks before the colder weather arrives. Here are some questions to think over:

Has the yard fence been completed?

Is the dog enclosure secure?

How safe is the play area for the children?

Do you need to protect your trees, shrubs, and other plantings from hungry deer?

Has the pool fence had a safety inspection? Is the gate self-closing? Can the fence be climbed?

Is a snow fence required to protect your property from wind-drifted snow?

Many possibilities and choices are readily available for any of these types of projects and any others you may have in mind.

Consider using vinyl coated wire for longer life and a more attractive appearance. Black vinyl-coated wire blends into the background. It tends to "disappear" and not be as noticeable as other types of fencing.

Manage the Flow
It's time to look forward to the many events and fairs that come around every year. Are you running or helping manage an event or fair? The following questions may apply to you:
  • Do you need to keep people moving, steering them in one direction or the other?
  • Does fencing enter the picture for your event?
  • Do certain areas need to be set apart for either safety reasons or practical ones?
  • Must parking areas be clearly marked off from the event or fairground?
  • Are there any water or traffic hazards that have to be fenced in or marked clearly to ensure everyone's safety?

Plastic Safety Fence: Quick and Easy Installation
An excellent choice for temporarily marking off different areas. Light in weight, these fences are easy to handle, install and remove after the event. There are several different types available in black, green, and high visibility orange. Rolls are either 50' or 100'. Meshes are either diamond or rectangular shaped. Safety fences can be quickly and easily fastened to metal or wood posts using safety zip ties.

Wood Snow Fence: Easy to Maneuver

An excellent solution to the problems and demands encountered in various locations. Easily rolled out and installed, wooden snow fence comes in 48" x 50' rolls. This long-time traditional favorite is available in a natural unstained or red oxide-stained finish. Wooden snow fence can also be easily attached to metal or wood posts with safety ties.

Vinyl Coated Hardware Cloth Is Best

July 12, 2010 | by Frank Langone

black vinyl coated welded hardware cloth

Galvanized After is Excellent, but...

Did you know that hardware cloth is available with a vinyl-coated finish? Many people think that these wire cloth meshes are only available with a galvanized after finish.

Firmly Bonded, Long-Lasting

Both ½" x ½" welded mesh with a 19 gauge "core" wire and ¼" x ¼" welded mesh with a 23 gauge "core" wire are available with a black vinyl coating. The coating is firmly bonded to the wire. The vinyl will not crack or split when the wire is bent. 100' rolls are available in 24", 36" and 48" widths.

If you need to use hardware wire cloth for your next project, consider the advantages of using a mesh that is black vinyl coated:

  • durable
  • longest lifetime
  • easy to work with
  • excellent for underground gopher barriers
  • double protection of galvanizing and vinyl coating resists rust and corrosion
  • attractive - black color blends with background, becoming virtually invisible
