From Wild to Well-Behaved: A Lesson in Prudence (and Fencing!)

From Wild to Well-Behaved: A Lesson in Prudence (and Fencing!)

You know, sometimes life throws you little surprises that make you stop and think. This week in our obedience class, we had one of those moments with Prudence, a dog who usually spends the entire session whining, barking, pulling, and lunging. But this time? She was a completely different dog. Calm, collected, and totally under control—all thanks to a new handler (maybe the owner’s daughter?). Even our trainer hardly had to step in! Now, Prudence still couldn’t be trusted off-leash like the other seven dogs, but the change was incredible.

The word prudence means acting with thought for the future, and that got me thinking. Sometimes, all it takes is a fresh approach—or the right tools—to get things under control. Whether you’re training a dog or planning a project, having the right strategy (and materials) makes all the difference.

A Prudent Reminder for Your Projects

Speaking of prudence, here’s something to think about: there’s a potential dockworker strike on the horizon in January. If it happens, it could disrupt the supply chain—especially for materials like Deer Fencing, Hardware Cloth, Galvanized Wire Mesh, and Vinyl-Coated Wire. The steel used for manufacturing these wire meshes comes from China, and many of the wire meshes themselves are made there too. So, if supplies get held up, finding the materials you need could become the hardest part of your project.

At Louis E. Page, we’re here to help you get ahead of the game. We’ve got immediate shipping on all your fencing needs, so you can stock up now and avoid the stress later. Don’t wait until supplies are affected—visit louispage.com to secure what you need today.

What Beavers Taught Me About Fencing Solutions (and a Must-Watch Documentary)

What Beavers Taught Me About Fencing Solutions (and a Must-Watch Documentary)

There’s something truly magical about standing still and watching nature at work. Recently, I found myself doing just that by the beaver pond near my home. I’ve been lucky enough to spot the resident beaver a few times, and there’s something so peaceful about watching them swim—so purposeful, so calm.

To my surprise, I noticed something new during my last visit: there are now two lodges! I always thought beavers stuck to one, but it seems this little colony is expanding. While the beavers are busy building, humans are doing their part to manage the area. They’ve installed wire mesh with a 4x4 opening to prevent the beavers from moving between the pond and the nearby wetlands. It’s a simple but effective solution—keeping the beavers in their space while letting nature take its course.

A Lesson from Mr. Beaver

A few years ago, I might not have given beavers a second thought. But then my son David recommended I watch the documentary "Leave It to Beavers," and I was absolutely blown away. The way beavers transform dry land into lush, thriving ecosystems is nothing short of amazing. Before that, my only real connection to beavers was from C.S. Lewis’s The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Do you remember the scene where Lucy asks Mr. Beaver if Aslan is safe? His response has always stuck with me:

“‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”

It’s such a profound moment—a reminder that while nature (and life) can be unpredictable, even dangerous, there’s a deeper goodness and purpose at work.

Fencing That’s Strong, Reliable, and Good

Just like Mr. Beaver’s description of Aslan, our wire mesh solutions are strong, reliable, and good at what they do. Whether it’s managing wildlife, protecting your garden, or securing your property, our fencing is designed to protect and manage your space with the same care and intention.

If you’ve got a project in mind, Terry, our fence expert, is here to help you find the perfect solution. Give her a call at 978-486-3116—she’s always ready to lend her expertise.

All my best, Debbie Page

David’s Magical Fish and the Hidden Power of a Good Fence

David’s Magical Fish and the Hidden Power of a Good Fence

There’s something about childhood discoveries that stick with you forever. One of my favorite memories is watching my son David, just six or seven years old, standing on the shore of St. George Island in Florida. He had caught a little silver fish, no more than eight inches long, and as he held it in his hands, he noticed something magical.

When he pressed on the fish’s belly, a tiny fish—probably its lunch—popped right out. As soon as he released the pressure, the baby fish slipped back inside. David was absolutely enthralled. He spent the rest of the afternoon walking up and down the beach, showing off his "magical fish" to anyone who would stop and listen. The joy on his face—and the delight of the strangers who gathered around—was something I’ll never forget. It was one of those simple, unexpected moments that remind you how much wonder there is in the world.

Now, you might be wondering: What does a magical fish have to do with fencing? Well, just like that little fish had something special hidden inside, the right fence can have a hidden power. It might look simple, but a well-chosen fence can transform your property in ways you might not expect.

The Magic of a Good Fence

A quality fence isn’t just about marking boundaries. It’s about creating spaces that work for you—whether that’s keeping your garden safe from critters, giving your pets a secure place to play, or even adding a little beauty to your property. And sometimes, it’s the small details that make the biggest difference.

Take our apron fence, for example. It has a 12-inch apron that lies flat on the ground, which might not seem like much—until you realize it’s the perfect way to keep dogs from digging out or unwanted critters from digging in. It’s one of those little touches that turns a good fence into a great one.

Fencing That Works as Hard as You Do

At Louis E. Page, we believe in fencing that does more than just stand there. Whether you need vinyl-coated wire mesh for a sleek, durable look or a specialized design for a unique project, we’ve got the right solution for you. Our fences are built to last, so you can focus on what matters—like making memories with your family or enjoying the peace of mind that comes with a secure property.

If you’re ready to bring a little magic to your own space, Terry, our fence expert, is here to help. She’ll listen to what you need and make sure you get a fence that’s just right for your project. Give her a call at 978-486-3116—she’s always happy to help!

All my best, Debbie Page

P.S. Fencing might seem like a small thing, but when it’s done right, it can make all the difference—just like David’s little fish. Let us help you find the perfect fence for your needs!

🐩 Spaces for Joy: How the Right Fence Can Bring People Together 🐩

🐩 Spaces for Joy: How the Right Fence Can Bring People Together 🐩

Yesterday, I had one of those heartwarming moments that just makes you smile from ear to ear, and it all started with my little black poodle, Phoebe. She’s two years old, weighs a solid 18.5 pounds, and has been on quite the adventure lately—training to visit nursing homes. To help her get comfortable around lots of people, I’ve been taking her into places like the grocery store and the hardware store. New Hampshire allows dogs in retail stores, and Phoebe has been a star!

At the grocery store yesterday, a bunch of people stopped to pet her. What really caught my attention was how much joy she brought to them. Phoebe, who used to be wild and crazy, just calmly soaked it all in, wagging her little tail. It was clear she was enjoying it just as much as they were.

It made me think: if I lived in town and had her in a fenced yard, I bet there’d be a line of people down the street waiting to pet and hug her!

Fencing for Joy

Moments like these remind me of the joy of giving—whether it’s sharing a moment with a sweet dog or making sure your property has the right fence to welcome in (or keep out) what matters. Fencing can do more than just mark boundaries—it can help create spaces for joy, whether that’s for your family, your pets, or your neighbors who’d line up to pet your dog!
