Hardware Cloth - Vinyl Coated Welded Wire Mesh

February 24, 2009 | by Duncan Page

Tough and Long-lasting Benefits

Vinyl Coated Hardware Cloth - small opening, galvanized after weld (GAW) wire cloth mesh covered with a thick coating of black vinyl. There are two specifications available:

  • 19 gauge - 1/2" x 1/2" mesh
  • 23 gauge - 1/4" x 1/4" mesh

The thick, flexible UV inhibited PVC coating is tightly bonded to the underlying wire. Black color blends with the background, becoming virtually invisible. This tough durable finish stands up to rough treatment and can be used in any situation where a long-lasting small mesh is needed. Vinyl coated hardware cloth has the following features:

  • black coating is unobtrusive - it blends with the background
  • ideal for use in wet areas - underwater or underground applications
  • thick, tough, black PVC coating over galvanized after weld (GAW) wire mesh
  • double protection from rust and corrosion - outlasts galvanized hardware cloth
  • excellent underground gopher barrier
  • easy to see through window glass or screen protection
  • prevents small rodents from gnawing the bark off young trees
  • makes an effective, unobtrusive barrier to prevent small nuisance animals from entering an area around or in the home
  • use wire cloth as an apron attached to a fence or as a buried ground wire to keep animals from digging under a fence

Swimming Pool Safety Fence Barriers

February 3, 2009 | by Duncan Page

Let's protect our little ones...

Each year, thousands of drownings and near-drowning events occur in the U.S. - swimming pool tragedies that are preventable. In the summer of 2018, there were 148 fatalities due to swimming pools and spas/Jacuzzis. That's from Memorial Day to Labor Day and that statistic only includes those younger than age 15. Mercifully, that statistic is down 9% from 2017. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has studied this problem extensively. Their conclusion about the best way to reduce and hopefully eliminate these incidents:

Pool owners must install and maintain effective barriers to prevent young children from entering the pool area.

Swimming pool barriers requirements for both in-ground and above ground pools should be/have:

  • at least 48" high
  • free of footholds
  • self-closing gates
  • free of hand holds
  • self-latching gates
  • made with small openings:
  • horizontal - no wider than 1-3/4"
  • vertical - no higher than 4"
  • locking devices on all gates
  • less than 4" clearance from ground to bottom of barrier
It is very important to check your local town codes before installing any swimming pool barrier, whether solid, with horizontal and vertical members or made using welded or woven wire mesh fence. Local town codes may vary.

Still, relying on these precautions is not enough.

Here is a sobering video showing the ingenuity of toddlers as they outsmart barriers created for their protection.

Vigilance is required! Parents: Put down cellphones, tablets, and laptops! At all times you should be in the pool with children 5 and younger and have your eyes on children 6 and above.

For further information, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has a 32-page brochure available as a PDF: Guidelines for Entrapment Hazards: Making Pools and Spas Safer.

Vinyl Coated Welded & Woven Wire Mesh & Fence

January 27, 2009 | by Frank Langone

Service for a Lifetime

Vinyl coated wire mesh and fencing is the longest lasting mesh you can buy. There are welded as well as woven meshes available. After the mesh is welded or woven, it passes through the coating process. The PVC is tightly bonded to the wire by a heat process. The mesh is completely covered, including those areas most likely to rust first - the spots that are welded or woven. The vinyl coating is impervious to moisture and corrosives. The wire is thoroughly protected from rust and corrosion. Standard colors are black and green. Other colors are available on special order.

Tightly Bonded Coating

A high quality vinyl coating is flexible and will not crack when bent. It gives the mesh a smooth finished look. There are no sharp edges. The PVC is not affected by extreme hot or cold temperatures. It is so well bonded to the wire that it stands up to scrapes and abrasions. Coated meshes are tough, long-lasting, weather and chemical resistant and attractive. Any mesh or fence that is vinyl coated will have the longest lifetime. Some meshes are available with double protection - GAW wire that is galvanized after being welded or woven and then covered with a thick layer of vinyl.

And a Variety of Uses--

  • yard fence
  • animal cages
  • chicken coops
  • crawfish traps
  • boundary fence
  • kennel flooring
  • game bird pens
  • deer fence barrier
  • greenhouse benches
  • children's play yards
  • swimming pool fence
  • lawn and garden fence
  • nuisance animal exclusion
  • backing for wood post and rail fence
