🧵 Old Fences and Old Jeans: The Trap of Comfort Zones
Reader’s Warning: Somewhat harsh truth follows…
I was reminded of something recently when I thought back to my senior year of high school. My best friend and I were bemoaning the fact that we would soon be parting ways—she was heading off to college in North Carolina, and I was going to Georgia. We lived in South Carolina and had spent years together, so the idea of separating felt heartbreaking.
As we sat there feeling sorry for ourselves, her dad—this big, burly guy—walked in and asked what was wrong. When we told him, he sat down and said:
"You know, girls, life is like a pair of blue jeans. You wear them and love them, and they become your favorite. You always want to put them on because they’re broken in and comfortable. But one day, you realize they’re wearing out, and you’re going to have to replace them. At first, you won’t like the new pair. They’re stiff, uncomfortable—not your favorite. But give it a little time, and soon enough, those new jeans will become your favorite, too."
His words stuck with me. Change is uncomfortable at first, but if we give ourselves the chance to adjust, we find that what’s new can be just as good—if not better—than what we left behind.
The Comfort Zone Trap
Feeling stuck in your comfort zone? You’re not alone. Whether it’s staying in a familiar job, holding onto old habits, or clinging to what feels "comfortable," change is often intimidating. But here’s the truth: Stepping into something new can lead to growth, resilience, and opportunities we didn’t even realize we needed.
At Louis E. Page, we’ve been helping customers make transitions like this for over a century. While we’re known for our high-quality fencing products, the heart of what we do is helping people move from "good enough" to exceptional.
Upgrading from "Good Enough" to Exceptional
I see this same resistance to change all the time with fencing. Maybe your old fence has done the job for years, and even though it’s sagging, rusting, or barely holding up, the idea of replacing it feels overwhelming. It’s familiar, it’s been there, and you know what to expect.
But just like breaking in a new pair of jeans, once you take the leap and upgrade, you realize how much better things can be: stronger, longer-lasting protection and the peace of mind that your investment will endure.
So we help customers take that next step with confidence. Whether you need woven wire mesh to protect wildlife, a stronger fence for your farm, or a custom-built solution for a unique project, we help you transfer the values you care about—security, durability, and peace of mind—into something that works for the future.
What’s Your Next Step?
Just like my friend’s dad reminded us that new jeans eventually become our favorites, upgrading your fence can bring you the same comfort and reliability—but better.
