A Trip Down Memory Lane (And Through the )

Growing up, “fast food” wasn’t a common sight. In fact, for most of my childhood, there weren’t any fast-food restaurants at all. Then, in 1964, something big happened in Greenville—McDonald’s opened its first location in town, and it was all the talk!

A Grand Adventure

I remember my dad loading the whole family into our old white station wagon (though I can’t quite remember the make), and off we went. It felt like a grand adventure as we crossed town to see what all the buzz was about. The excitement was building as we approached, and there, standing tall and proud, were the Golden Arches. They were larger than life, towering over the restaurant, with a sign that said (at least that's what I remember).

As kids, seeing those arches for the first time felt like magic. And the experience—crisp fries, hamburgers hot off the grill, and everything served up faster than anything we’d seen—left quite the impression. Right behind the McDonald's was a cow pasture fenced in the ordinary way with wire mesh. I bet that pasture sold for a premium someday!

Quality That Leaves a Lasting Impression

Looking back, it’s funny to think about how novel and exciting that moment was, especially compared to today’s world, where fast-food options are around every corner—unless you live in my town of ! But that day back then, it was a brand-new experience, and it’s one I cherish.

Here at Louis E. Page, we take a similar pride in serving our customers in ways that leave a lasting impression. While we may not be serving up hamburgers or fries, we are always focused on bringing into every product we offer—whether it's , stainless steel, or snow fence.
