🎄 "Hark the Herald Angels Sing!"... Inside the House

I’ll never forget the day I realized the importance of a good fence—even inside the house!

A few years ago, I was juggling life as a grandmother and a new puppy owner. My puppy, Phoebe Louise, was a curious three-month-old with an insatiable appetite for trouble. My granddaughter, around four at the time, was trying to play peacefully in her little kitchen on the other side of my kitchen island. She was busy "cooking" with dried pasta, but every time she turned her back, Phoebe was right there, gobbling up her supplies.

To keep the peace, I set up a temporary fence around her play area. It worked beautifully—until it didn’t.

A Puppy’s Triumph

As I cooked dinner on the other side of the island, I heard my granddaughter’s voice rise with dramatic flair:

“Hark the Herald Angels Sing! Phoebe Louise has broken into the kitchen!”

Sure enough, Phoebe had found a way to wiggle through the tiny gap between the island and the fence. She was back in the kitchen, triumphant. I couldn’t help but laugh—especially at my granddaughter’s choice of expletives. She had learned the carol that Christmas and clearly thought it fit the occasion!
