While there are many different ways to build a turtle or tortoise fence, the most widely used specification is 16 gauge, 1"x2" 36"x100' galvanized after welded wire mesh. Vinyl coated meshes have also been used successfully. The most important factors in determining the final choice are:

• species of turtle
• environment
• aesthetics
• code requirements
• longevity

• Galvanized After Weld (GAW) wire meshes
  
  • 1" x 2" 16 gauge GAW mesh
    • exceptionally long lasting welded wire mesh
    • GAW for years of use
    • provides secure, strong protection

• Vinyl Coated (VC) welded wire mesh
  • 1" x 1" 16 gauge VC mesh
    • strong gauge wire mesh
    • black PVC bonded tightly to wires
    • attractive - black blends into background
